Apple and Green Tomato Chutney

Apple & Green Tomato Chutney is a sweet and tangy condiment served as a side dish with any Indian dish.

  • 4 medium green tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tart apples, peeled and chopped
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp raisins
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ginger finely chopped
  • ½ tsp black peppercorns, crushed
  • 3 cloves
  • pinch nutmeg
  • ½ cups wine vinegar
  • Preparation time: 10 minutes
  • Cooking time: about 20 minutes

How to make Apple and Green Tomato Chutney:

  1. Chop the the apples and tomatoes to the small pieces.
  2. Combine all the ingredients, except the vinegar in a stainless-stell saucepan.
  3. Add 6 tbsp of the vinegar and cook over low heat, adding the remaining vinegar gradually as the mixture boils.
  4. Stir as the mixture thickens about 45 minutes.
  5. When thick transfer to sterilized jars.
  6. Seal when cool. Store in a cool, dark place.
