Tomato Onion Salad

This fresh Indian salad is made from chopped tomatoes, cucumber and onion, tossed together and flavored with Indian spices and few herbs. Adding green chili is optional. However you can spice this salad with some red chili powder if you like it hot. You can also pour any yogurt dressing or raita if you like.

Ingredients:

Serves 2-4

  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 green chilies (seeds removed and cut longwise), you can use less hot chilies or use green beel pepper.
  • 15ml (1 tbsp) olive oil (optional)
  • ¼ tsp red chilli pepper (optional)
  • ¼ tsp ground cumin powder
  • handful fresh coriander leaves, chopped (optional)
  • pinch ground black pepper
  • salt to taste

How to make Tomato - Onion Salad:

  1. Chop tomatoes and place in a medium size bowl
  2. Chop onion and add to the chopped tomatoes.
  3. Add green chili, lemon juice, olive oil. Add pinch of salt and black pepper. Toss all the ingredients together.
  4. Sprinkle in cumin powder and red chili pepper. Decorate with chopped green coriander (optional). Serve as a salad with your favorite dish.
