Brussels Sprouts with Mustard Seeds

This Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Mustard Seeds recipe is super easy to make and very healthy. They are rich in Omega - 3 fatty acids, fiber and vitamin C. Once sautéed, the sprouts will be charred and crispy on the outside, lightly caramelized and soft on the inside.

Ingredients:

Serves 2-4

  • 1 lb/450 g brussels sprouts
  • 2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 dry red chilies
  • ½ tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • black pepper to taste
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup water

How to make Brussels Sprouts with Mustard Seeds:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a thick bottomed pan.
  2. Add mustard seeds and red chilies. Fry for about 2 minutes on low heat.
  3. Add the brussels sprouts.
  4. Add black pepper, salt, coriander powder and cumin powder. Stir - fry for few minutes on medium-high heat.
  5. When they start to stick add some water. Then cover the pan and let simmer for 15 minutes or until brussel sprouts turn golden brown or even get a little burnt.
  6. Adjust the salt. Serve hot with roti.

Tip: Trim bottom of brussels sprouts, and slice each in half top to bottom. Brussels sprout will taste much better.
