Cardamom Tea (Elachi Chai)

This truly delightful tea is enhanced with the exotic flavor of cardamom. Cardamom tea can be enjoyed at any time of day. This traditional cardamom tea recpe is is prepared by boiling crushed cardamom seeds in water along with high quality black tea leaves. It can be drunk with or without milk.

Serves 2

  • 2 cups water
  • ⅔ -1 cup milk (depends how you like your tea, I usee less if it is whole milk, more if it is 1% or skimmed milk)
  • 10-12 green cardamom seeds (crashed)
  • 2-4 cloves
  • 2 tsp loose tea leaves (non-scented) or 2 tea bags
  • sugar, or honey (optional, to taste)

How to make Cardamom Tea:

  1. Pour the water into a saucepan or stainless still pot. Add crushed cardamom pods and cloves. Bring it to a boil. reduce heat and boil them for about 10 minutes. After that time a lovely aroma should be released.
  2. Add tea leaves or tea bags. Let it steep for 3-4 minutes. Dont boil too much as the tea will impart a bitter flavor.
  3. Add milk and bring to a boil. Let it cook for aditional 2 minutes or till desired colour is obtained.
  4. Strain, add sugar or honey if needed, and serve hot with your favorite Indian snack or cookies.

Tip: You can adjust amount of water and milk according to personal preference. If you want more milky tea, add more milk. If you like it less milky add some more water.
