Bhatura

Bhaturas are deep-fried puffed up breads while frying. The semolina makes it crisp on the outside, but they are soft from inside. They are often served with masala chick peas.

Ingredients:

Serves 4

  • 2 cups ( 250gt/8 oz) plain flour
  • ¾ cup (100 g/ 3 oz) semolina
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ cup yogurt
  • vegetable oil for deep frying

How to make Bhatura Bread:

  1. Soak semolina for 15 minutes in just enough water to cover it.
  2. Sift flour, salt and baking soda. Add sugar, semolina and yogurt. Knead with some water to make a smooth dough of rolling consistency.
  3. Brush the dough with oil and keep covered in warm place for 3 hours.
  4. Just before serving time, make 8-10 balls.
  5. Roll each ball to an round / oblong shape. Pull from one side to get pointed tip.
  6. Heat oil in a frying pan. Deep fry bhaturas in medium hot oil till golden brown. Serve imediatelly with chana masala.
