Spiced Ice Tea

This refreshing and healthy home brew Spiced Ice Tea makes wonderful drink on a hot or cold day. The drink is cold to the touch, but in a minute will warm you up with its spicy flavor. Cold Masala Tea is easy to make and you can drink it even hot. Also, you can make it a day before and drink it the next day.

Ingredients

Serves 2-4

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp black tea (or 2-3 tea bags)
  • 6-8 cardamom pods
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 inch piece of ginger
  • 6-8 cloves
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • sugar, honey (optional)
  • ice, lemon juice to serve

How to make Spiced Ice Tea:

Directions 1

  1. Pour 2 cups of water in non-stick pan. Add ginger, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods (you can crush them for extra flavor),cloves, star anise (optional).
  2. Bring water to a boil and cook on low-medium heat for 5 minutes.
  3. Add tea bags or tea leaves and brew for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Turn off the gas. Add remaining water. Put aside to cool. Put the tea to the fridge to cool it even more. When ready, add lemon juice, strain and pour into tall glasses.
  5. Decorate with spring of mint and slice of lemon.
  6. Sweeten with honey or sugar if/ as desired. Enjoy!

Directions 2

(If you like your ice tea to have stronger flavor and not be diluted by ice and have more time to prepare it)

  1. Boil 2 cups of water with ginger, cinnamon, cardamom pods, cloves, star anise. Cook on low-medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add tea bags or tea leaves and brew for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add remaining water. Put aside to cool.
  4. Add lemon juice. Strain.
  5. Pour 2 cups of tea into ice tray to make ice cubes. Put the ice try to the freezer and rest of the tea put into the fridge. Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled and Ice cubes formed solid.
  6. When the ice cubes are solid, pour the tea into the tall glasses. Add Ice cubes.
  7. Decorate with spring of mint and slice of lemon. Sweeten with honey or sugar if/ as desired.
