Masala (Chai) - Indian Spiced Tea

Nothing is more comforting than a cup of hot, aromatic tea. A quick brew of this uniquely flavored tea will have the entire house smelling delicious and inviting. Indian spiced tea (Masala Chai) is the most popular hot beverage in India. Masala chai translates to spiced tea.

Ingredients:

Serves 2-3

  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 tbsp black tea (or 2-3 tea bags)
  • 6-8 cardamom pods
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 inch piece of ginger (or ¼ tsp ginger powder)
  • 2 tsp fennel seeds
  • 6-8 cloves
  • ¼ tsp freshly grated nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • sugar, honey (optional)

How to Make Indian Spiced Tea (Masala Chai):

  1. Prepare all ingredients ready for creating this rich and spicy brew.
  2. Pour the water into a pan. Add ginger, cardamom pods, fennel seeds, nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise (optional) and bring to a boil. Cook on medium heat for 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add tea leaves or tea bags. Cover it and cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Pour the milk, stir and bring it to boil. Let the tea brew for 4-5 minutes.
  5. When tea is ready strain into cups. Serve with sugar, honey, acording to taste.
