Potatoes Flavored with Cumin (Jeera Aloo)

Jeera aloo It is a very simple, yet flavorful and delicious Noorth Indian dish prepared with boiled potatoes and sautéed with cumin seeds and few Indian spices.

Ingredients:

Serves 4

  • 500g potatoes
  • 3 tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 dried red chilies or ½ tsp chili powder (optional)
  • salt to taste
  • 3-4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • coriander leaves to decorate

How to make Jeera Aloo (Potatoes with Cumin)

  1. Boil potatoes and when they cool off peel the skin and chopped them into 1 inches cubes. It’s an essential pre-preparation you need to do before you begin making this dish.
  2. In a pan, heat the vegetable. Add cumin seeds and let it toast for 30 seconds.
  3. Add the turmeric, dry chilies or chili powder and salt. Toast for a few seconds.
  4. Add boiled and chopped potatoes. Mix everything. Rosted spices should cover all potatoes. Cook stiring often on medium heat for few minutes till potatoes will be golden brown in color and get crispy on the outside. Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro and serve hot with roti or paratha.
