Apple Chutney

Apple Chutney is a delicious blend of apples mixed with sweet and spicy ingredients to make one of the tastiest chutney recipes you've ever tasted.

Ingredients:

  • 4 apples (peeled and sliced)
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 5 tbsp raisins
  • ¼ tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 2 inch gingerroot (chopped)
  • 1-2 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Preparation time: 10 minutes
  • Cooking time: about 20 minutes

How to make Apple Chutney:

  1. Slice the apples and lay them on a dish. Sprinkle with half of the salt. Cover and set aside.
  2. Place half o the vinegar in the pan, add the sugar and stir over a low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Bring to the boil until a thick syrup is made. Allow to cool.
  3. Place the remaining vinegar in a pan, add the apples, cinnamon stick and simmer for 3-4 minutes until tener.
  4. Allow to cool then stir in the vinegar syrup, raisins, mustard seeds, choppped ginger, garlic and chili powder, and salt. Mix it.
  5. Bottle in airtight jar or jars with vinegar -proof tops.

Let this chutney mature for 4-5 weeks before using.
