Spiced Peas (Peas Indian Style)

This spicy Peas dish is really easy to make. A delicious and easy side dish using frozen peas and spices. Indian Spiced Peas take about 10 minutes that have so much flavor.

Serves 2

  • 1½ cup peas, fresh or frozen or snow peas
  • 1 tsp garlic-ginger paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green chillies
  • ½ sp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • salt, to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2-3 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp ginger julienne

How to make Spiced Peas (Masala Matar):

  1. Heat oil in a non-stickin pan.
  2. Add cumin seeds. Let it sizzle for 30 secods, then add green chillies and garlic-ginger paste. Saute for 1 minute on medium heat.
  3. Add the coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala and salt.
  4. Add 2-3 tbsp of water to prevent spices from sticking to the pan.
  5. Add in the peas and coat them with the spices. Cover and cook on low flame for about 5-8 minutes. Decorate with julianne ginger and serve with roti or paratha.


This dish can be make also with browned onions and added tomatoes.
