Peas Pulao (Matar Pulao)

Peas pulao is a flavorful, classic Indian rice dish made from boiled basmati rice, green peas and few whole spices. It pairs with any curry dish.

Ingredients:

Serves 4-6

  • 1 cup of basmati rice
  • 1 cups fresh or frozen green peas
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2-3 cloves
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped ginger
  • 1 small piece cinnamon
  • 4-6 green cardamoms
  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves to garnish
  • ΒΌ cup cashew nuts to garnish
  • 10 raisins to garnish

How to make Peas Pulao:

  1. Rinse the rice in several changes of water and let it soak for 10 min.
  2. Boil the rice.
  3. Heat the oil in a non stick pan.
  4. Put in chopped onion. Add garlic and ginger. When it browns, add the cardamoms, cinnamon, cumin seeds, cloves. Fry till the onions turn transparent.
  5. Add the peas and mix well. Cook on low heat till the peas is cooked.
  6. Mix in the cooked rice and heat through. Add salt to taste.
  7. Decorate with cashewnuts, raisins, chopped coriander leaves.
  8. Eat hot with a vegetable or meat side dish.
